Free IT and Digital Training Opportunities in New Orleans

Generation USA transforms education to employment systems to prepare, place, and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible. The global pandemic has led to an unprecedented surge in unemployment — 375 million workers of all ages needed to learn new skills by 2030. At the same time, jobs remain in high demand, and employers say a skills shortage leaves them with vacancies.

Delgado and Generation USA offer free training opportunities

The economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic has left more than 30 million people unemployed in the U.S. alone, a rate unseen since the Great Depression. A recent study by the University of Chicago estimates that 42% of these layoffs will become permanent and the impact, both in terms of health outcomes and economic damage, has been felt more acutely by communities of color. Generation’s delivery model is built for scale and to help address the skills gap that exists in the U.S.

Hallmarks of Generation’s approach, including a rapid launch process, bootcamp-style training and placement, and individualized education plans with resources and support, position Generation USA to serve the massive newly unemployed population. As such, in partnerships with colleges and organizations across the country, Generation USA has committed to train 500,000 students by 2030.

Provide technical training, support, and mentorship. We give students access to multiple career pathways and help connect learners to internships, continuing education, and full-time employment.

Those seeking to gain skills and access to lifelong learning, and those who are unemployed or underemployed, from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds, aged 18+.

Generation serves a population of individuals for whom the existing education-to-employment system has not worked. They face a myriad of life challenges, including transportation, parenting and family challenges, and food and housing insecurity. To allow Generation students to manage their lives during training and focus on learning, we provide resources and support. 

Generation has extensive experience serving opportunity youth; 85% of learners are Black or Latinx, 62% of learners have a high school diploma or GED only, and 40% of learners have dependents

More About Generation USA

Entering a Generation program is not simply taking a course online -- it’s participating and belonging to a community of support.  Our top-notch global curriculum design team, composed of long-time educators, are experts in online-first learning.

For each profession, the Generation team creates a curriculum to match the needs of our employer partners.  Our Generation curriculum incorporates technical training in the core competencies of each role and integrates behavioral skills and mindsets demonstrated by top performers in the role.  To create this alignment and develop a high-impact curriculum, we conduct ‘Activity Mapping’ on-the-ground in order to:

  • Determine the primary activities that employees in the role perform daily on the job through interviews and observations
  • Identify the specific behaviors and tactics that most differentiate performance between top and low performers by capturing the behaviors and mindsets of the former group through observations and focus groups
  • Translate these key activities to business drivers, so that we can assess the productivity and quality outcomes of an individual employee and therefore determine the employer’s return on investment from participating in Generation

Online-First Classroom

Learners acquire new knowledge through online methods with videos, readings, and guided experiences. The instructor walks alongside the learner to ensure skills are mastered, to integrate our behavioral, skills, and mindsets, review practice activities, and to set the stage for the transition to internship, continuing education, apprenticeship, or full-time employment after the program. 

Generation's bootcamp-style training integrates technical, behavioral, and mindset skills, focusing on those that matter most for graduates to hit the ground running on their first day on the job. The curriculum is built to offer repeated, intensive practice of the activities that make a great employee. On average, most curricula are designed to have 70-75% practice-based lessons.

Connection is a hallmark of a Generation program and at the heart of our work. Our learners work on team projects, small group experiences, open lines of communication between instructors and students,  -- infusing career coaching and mentorship in new ways.  The connections learners form within a cohort of students provides a network of community support for learners to thrive and flourish.
